Magnetic susceptibility meter model Terraplus KT-10

Magnetic susceptibility meter model Terraplus KT-10
Terraplus KT-10 Magnetic Susceptibility Meter

Description:

Magnetic susceptibility is the degree to which an object can be magnetized or how receptive it is to being magnetized when exposed to an external magnetic field. It is often used for obtaining accurate and precise measurements for outcrops, drill cores, and rock samples.

The Terraplus KT-10 magnetic susceptibility meter uses a 10 kHz LC oscillator with an inductive coil to measure magnetic susceptibility. Basically, this measurement is made from comparing the frequency difference between the sample and free air measurements.

Magnetic susceptibility meter options with a Geonics EM38-MK2

Geonics EM38 magnetic susceptibility and shallow apparent conductivity meter
Geonics EM38 magnetic susceptibility and shallow apparent conductivity meter

Description:

First, the EM38-MK2 provides a non-invasive measurement of the ground’s conductivity and second the same bulk volume of material’s magnetic susceptibility. While it is most often used for apparent conductivity measurements, the inphase component, measured in parts per thousand or ppt, reflects magnetic susceptibility. Geonics uses a transmitter to produce a primary magnetic field that interacts with its surrounding that produces a measurable response that varies according to the subsurface’s properties. Unlike the EM31, the EM38 performs these readings at two distinct depth ranges simultaneously. Depths are shallower given its approximate depth range of 1.5 and 0.75 meters when positioned in the vertical dipole and 0.75 and 0.375 meters in the horizontal dipole orientation. This makes it a great tool for mapping soils for agriculture, archaeology, and other general shallow soil science surveys.
