Instantel Minimate Plus, Micromate, or Blastmate III Ground Vibration Monitors
Description:
Instantel ground vibration monitors such as the Minimate, Micromate, and Blastmate are seismographs that have a triaxial geophone, which consists of one vertical and two horizontal components. This geophone measures the peak particle velocity or the maximum speed of ground vibration as it oscillates about a point of equilibrium caused by seismic energy. Often, mine operators or construction crews measure the peak particle velocity in inches per second to monitor if damage may occur to surrounding structures. When requested, these ground vibration monitors can attach a microphone to measure the potential for the damage from air overpressure (e.g an air blast from an explosion).
All of the ground vibration monitors are similar and are interchangeable for most common appications. Essentially, the Minimate was the gold standard for ground vibration monitoring for the last 20 years. The Blastmate has the same features as the Minimate. However, it includes a more robust keypad and internal thermal printer. The Micromate is the newest ground vibration monitor and possesses an intuitive touchscreen, much larger memory, and better battery life.

Customers often use a large car type battery and inverter for long term monitoring with Minimates and Blastmates. They simply keep the units connected to a charger 24/7. While the Blastmates have a longer battery life (assuming the printer is not used), the compact design of the Minimate uses a smaller battery pack that can run down faster than anticipated.
Software provided:
Each Instantel ground vibration monitor comes with a USB Flash Drive possessing Instantel’s Blastware software that allows the user to download results and create compliance reports.
